Last Wednesday I had the pleasure to attend and contribute to the Farewell Symposium of dr. Roel Kloos, who has been my first mentor since I started out in Ocuplastic Surgery. He is an excellent surgeon and fantastic colleague and I have learned so much from him over the past decade and a half.

We had a great meeting in Rotterdam this month where I presented 2 posters together with a resident of ours, dr. Estel·la Rojas.

Es una infección muy agresiva de los tejidos blandos (piel, musculo, fascia) de la cara en la que precisa tratamiento adecuado y rápido con antibióticos y cirugía para el desbridamiento los tejidos afectados. Estas infecciones puedan causar malfuncionamiento y desfiguramiento de los párpados y de la cara importante, algo que puede conducir a daño ocular. 

Ha sido un placer de presentar mis resultados de la corrección de ptosis palpebral (párpado caído) sin uso de suturas en el último congreso SECOP, el congreso nacional de la cirugía oculoplastica de España con mas de 500 visitantes. 

We describe an extremely rare cause of orbital myositis, an inflammation of the muscles that turn the eye, caused by an auto-immune reaction to a distant primary tumor. The paper has been published in Orbit, a renowned peer reviewed scientific paper since it raises awareness of this diagnostic possibility when patients present with painful eyes, swelling of the ocular mucosa and an inability to move their eyes.

It was a true pleasure to be able to assist and present at the national Dutch Ophthalmologic Society (NOG) congress again last month. Since the pandemic I have not been able to see and talk to my Dutch colleagues in person and it was great to finally be able to see everybody in person again. 

Droopy eyelid correction: Scarless. Sutureless. Effective.   Correcting a droopy eyelid from the inside of the eyelid, making no incision, nor a  scar, in the skin and without putting any sutures is a very attractive option to correct droopy eyelids. Dr. van der Veen has introduced this sutureless version of droopy eyelid correction both in the Netherlands and in Spain with many satisfied patients as a result.
